Product Information
Which kit do I need to repair my surface?
If you’ve damaged a granite, marble, or stone surface (like a kitchen countertop), you’ll need the Granite, Marble & Stone Surface Repair Kit.
For ceramic, acrylic, or enameled surfaces (such as sinks, bathtubs, toilets, and tiles) you’ll want either the White Surface Repair Kit, or the Bone & Almond Color Surface Repair Kit.
And for anything else, check out the Multi-Color Surface Repair Kit. It includes black, red, blue, green, yellow, and white fillings. These can even be mixed together to match any color surface you might have.
Will I need help from a professional or can I make the repair by myself?
You don’t need any extra assistance whatsoever to use our products. Every surface repair kit is simple enough for anyone to use, whether you’re a DIY expert or have no experience at all.
Simply fill in the defect using a syringe, then harden the filling by shining the included blue light on it. The repaired area is then polished and sanded to make it blend in with the rest of your surface.
For step-by-step instructions, check out the manual inside your repair kit, or take a look at our How It Works page.
Do I need extra items to make repairs?
When making repairs on natural or engineered stone (like granite or marble), acrylic (bathtubs), and fiberglass, you will want to use masking tape around the repair area. This will prevent the rest of your surface from getting scratched during the repair process. Masking tape is not included in the kit.
Also, all repair kits include a special polishing wheel and mandrel. In order to use the polishing wheel, you need a hand tool (like a Dremel power tool), which is not included in the kits. Using this is not essential though, it is simply for those who want an extra-smooth finish for the repair.
How safe are the repairs and repair materials? Can I use them on my kitchen counter?
You can safely use all of the ingredients on your kitchen counter or any surface which comes into direct contact with food. All of the raw materials in the kits are used in the pharmaceutical industry, thus the repair materials and repairs made with them are completely non-toxic.
For ultimate assurance, every kit is manufactured under the requirements of the ISO 13485 medical devices quality management system.
What type of defects can't the repair kits fix?
If there is a hairline crack in your surface, this can’t be fixed with the kits. This is due to the repair material being unable to penetrate through small cracks. The minimum defect size has to be 0.08 x 0.08 x 0.08 in (2 x 2 x 2 mm).
If a surface has completely broken apart into multiple pieces, this cannot be fixed by the repair kits. The repair material is not glue, and cannot stick pieces together.
They are also not for repairing windshield or glass chips
How well does the repair kit work on vertical chips?
Vertical chips are no problem at all. If you’re using the flow repair material, just cool it to 35°F (0-5°C) in your fridge, and it will be ready to make repairs on vertical surfaces.
The paste repair material is even better for vertical surfaces as it is more viscous. If you store the syringe in your freezer for 30 minutes before performing the repair, it will become less flowable.
How many repairs can I make with one kit?
At the average defect size of 0.2 x 0.4 x 0.4 in (5 x 10 x 10 mm), you’ll be able to repair around 20 chips. For reference, that means every kit includes enough material to repair 35 defects the size of a copper penny.
What is the shelf life of the kit and how do I store it after use?
The average shelf life of the repair material is 3 years when stored in standard room conditions. Simply use the syringe to repair your surface, and close the cap to keep it safe. Just make sure the contents are kept away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.
Do I need to use leveling tape?
All repair materials should not come into contact with air during the curing process. To make sure that doesn't happen, you need to apply leveling tape before shining the blue light on the filled area. This ensures the repair will dry properly.
In the case that you don't use leveling tape, you will notice a little bit of acrylic residue on top of the repair. This layer can be wiped off with a piece of cloth and then you may continue with the sanding.
Why is there no leveling tape in my kit?
The pieces of leveling tape are small transparent plastic films, making them sometimes hard to see. You should have a plastic bag containing these films next to the sandpapers in your kit.
If however, you still can't find it, please email us at hello@stowsen.com and we will be happy to assist you.
The defect I am trying to repair is larger than the leveling tape. What can I do?
To cover larger chips, you can use the pieces of leveling tape next to each other (side by side).
